RAILWAY SMASH
.t , ; DEPARTMENTAL. REPORT. IRREGULARITIES IN TRACK. [By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.] Received July 26, 9.55 a.m. SYDNEY, July 26. The departmental board appointed to inquire into tho Aberdeen railway smash that occurred last month reports that it was caused by oscillation due to irregularities in the track, the most important of which was a kink coinciding with the maximum difference in the rail levels. Such a position could be produced by fast"traffic ; possibly by one train, thus developing critical conditions for the following train. The line was reported to be in good condition before the smash, the viadiict sound and both engines in good running order. —Press Association. Owing to the collapse of a wooden viaduct between Togar and Aberdeen, about 180 miles north of Sydney, tiie Brisbane express was derailed shortly before midnight on June lOsh. Several persons were killed, while a large number were injured.
