SLIGHTLY WORSE. POSITION IN NORTH. Unemployment in Palmerston North is slightly worse, a “Standard” representative was informed at the Labour Department to-day. Provision had been made for about 12 married men —distressed -cases—to commence work on the railway deviation as soon as was convenient.

For the week ending on Saturday the registration in the department’s books were 71 married men, with 195 dependants, and 55 single men, the majority being in search of. manual labour, while the balance include a blacksmith, hotel workers, painters and a fitter and 'saddler. There were three women in search of employment last week. _ For the week ended July 17 the registrations were 59 married and 55 single men. '
