RAILWAY OFFICERS.

LOCAL INSTITUTE MEETING. There was an excellent, attendance at a general meeting last night of the local branch of the New Zealand Railway Officers’ Institute. The branch chairman (Mr A. F. Gilmore) presided and welcomed the president of the Institute (Mr V. R. J. Stanley) and other visiting officers. Mr J. W. Fergie (delegate) addressed members on tho recent conference in .Wellington, following which tho president delivered a very interesting address on the question of salaries, regrading of positions, examinations, advertising for positions and many other service questions. The speakers were accorded votes of thanks by acclamation.
