RUGBY TOURNAMENT.

PRIMARY SCHOOLS AT PLAY. The annual seven-a-side Rugby tournament for primary schools of the district took place at tho Showgrounds this morning. On the present occasion outside competition was restricted to the Manchester and Lytton Street schools (Feilding) and Bunnythorpe. In the senior competition for the Pirani Shield, Manchester Street were successful, beating Terrace End B in the final. Lytton Street, last year’s winners, were this morning defeated by the Manchester Street seven. In tho junior division for the Junior Cup, Central A won, beating Terrace End B in the final. Hokowhitu, who held the cup last year, were beaten by Terrace End B in the second round. The tournament secretary was Mr N. Martin, who was assisted by a large number of local teachers in the control of tho fixture. Matches were refereed by Messrs H. Hands, L. Berry, L. Morine and H. Lunn. Detailed results of the play are as follow: SENIORS.. First round.—Hokowhitu beat Terrace End A, 6 —3; Convent beat College Street, 3 —o; West End beat Central B, 24—0; Central A won from Terrace End B by default; Manchester Street (Feilding) beat Lytton Street (Feilding), 10—0; Bunnythorpe won from Rongotea by default. Second round. —Hokowhitu won from Foxton by default; AVest End beat Convent, 8 —0; Manchester Street beat Central A, 8—0; Bunnythorpe won by default from Rongotea. Semi-finals. Manchester Street beat Bunnythorpe, 12—0. Irvine and Groombridge scored two tries each for the winners. West End beat Hokowhitu, 9 —o. Anderson (2) and Thomson, scored for the winners. Final.—Manchester Street beat West End, 3—o. The teams were evenly matched and at the spell no score had been registered. After the change over the Feilding backs began to throw the ball about and Masters got over after a pretty piece of combined work. The wind carried the kick well away. West End were on. the defensive for most of the second SP ° IL JUNIORS. First round. —Hokowhitu beat West End, B—6; Terrace End B\beat Central B, 16—'3. _ , Second round. —Convent heat College Street, 8 —0; Central A beat Manchester Street, 15 —0; Terrace End A beat Lytton Street, 3—o; Terrace End B beat Hokowhitu, 11—0. Semi-finals. —Central A beat Convent, 18 —0; Terrace End B won by default from Terrace End A, Final.— Central A beat Terrace End B 3 —o. Clarke scored for the winners early in the game and although Terrace End worked hard to equalise in the latter stages, they were unsuccessful. Terrace End were, however, unlucky not to register from a break away” near tho call of time.
