A DOMINION ARTIST.

QUEEN VISITS EXHIBITION. MR C. H. BARTON. HONOURED. Some two years ago, Mr C. H. Barton son of Mr E. A. B. Barton, of Feuding, proceeded to England to further his art studies at the Slade Art School, and the excellent progress which the Dominion# artist made recently determined, him to hold a public exhibition in the Graham Gallery. To the surprise of the exhibitor, the Queen paid tho gallery a visit when tho request was made that Mr Barton personally conduct Her Majesty around the gallery. A quarter of an hour was spent by Queen Mary in conversation with the New Zealander, and, at the conclusion, slio made two purchases—one a study of the Wanganui river and the other a street scene in Sydney—both of which were, strangely enough, works of the artist prior to entering upon his studies in London. _ Mr Barton held an exhibition of his works in Palmerston North prior to his departure for England and lie will be remembered by a. large number of local and district residents who will be pleased to learn of his success.
