NEW AGENT-GENERAL.

LORD CHELMSFORD’S POST. LIKELY TO ACT INDEFINITELY. LONDON, Julv 12. It is stated that Lord Chelmsford will retain the post of Agent-General for New South Wales indefinitely. When it was announced recently that Lord Chelmsford had agreed to take over tho Agent-Generalship in London, the explanation was that this was merely a temporary arrangement. A Sydney paper states that it is the intention of tho Premier, Mr Lang, to await the report of the Attorney-Gen-eral, Mr McTiernan, concerning the office of the Agent-General, before asking Cabinet to consider the appointment of a successor to Viscount Chelmsford.
