SALVATION ARMY

PRIMARY CONCERT LAST NIGHT. For tbe purpose of raising funds to acquire more efficient equipment for the primary department of the Salvation Army, a concert was held last night, at the Citadel when there was a good attendance. Staff Captain Perry spoke briefly on the welfare of the children, urging parents to send the little ones along. Ho also said a sample of the good work which was going on in the primary of the Salvation Army could be seen by looking at the children seated on the platform in front of them. The items rendered by the tiny tots showed keenness and ability whether it was in solo or concerted work, each deserving the praise and applause given them. A prayersong entitled “Heavenly Father” by the primary school opened the programme, followed by prayer. Others who contributed to the entertainment were as follow: Company song, “With Heart and Voice,” primary teachers; recitations, humorous, Master Whelon Wheelan; action song, “The. Finger Family,” primary children; pianoforte solo, Miss Purton; ventriloquist items, Mr Marchant; recitation, Master Ganderton; action song, “If. I were a Beautiful Star,” primary children; Bible reading, Sister C. Cobb; nursery rhymes, Annie and Albert Wheatley; recitations, Miss Jean Scott; instrumental trio, “Rubisteins Melody in F,” Misses Purton and Bailey and Mr Bailey; canoe song and poi, primary teachers and party; action song, “Suppose,” primary children; recitation, Master A. Ganderton; duet, “A Dream of Paradise,” Misses C. and G. Bailey; vocal solo, “Father in Heaven,” Sister N. Carmichael (primary leader); Doxology and Benediction. Several _of the above items were accompanied by an orchestra under the baton of Mr Jackson. Special mention is due for the splendid work by the primary teachers and their leader, Miss N. Carmichael.
