FOUR IN TWO SEATER.
A HAMILTON JOY-RIDE. SEQUEL IN THE COURT. HAMILTON, June 24. Arising out of a joy-riding episode on May 2, when a woman and her two children were knocked over at a street intersection, the mother being severely injured, Charles Caldwell Hooper, an 18-year-old garage apprentice, was charged before Mr 'Wyvern Wilson, S.M., yesterday with dangerous driving, negligent driving, and turning a corner at an excessive speed. The evidence showed that there were four in the car, a two-seater. Two of tho occupants were girls, one of whom sat between Caldwell and another youth, and the other on the knee of the latter. After hearing the stories of the prosecution and the defence, the magistrate said he was satisfied defendant was on the wrong side of the road and that the girls obscured his vision. Defendant was fined £5 and £2 costs for negligent driving, and on the dangerous driving charge was placed on probation for two years, a condition being that he must not drive a car before 8 a.m. or-after 4.30 p.m.
