SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
MEETING OF LOCAL ASSOCIATION
The annual meeting of the Palmerston North School Committees’ Association was held last night, Mr C. H. Whitehead (West End) presiding over an attendance of twenty representatives from the Central, College Street, West End, Hokowhitu and Terrace End Schools. . . , ,
Mr Whitehead was re-elected' president for the ensuing year, while Mr C. H. Fisher (Central) was appointed secretary. Tlie servioe rendered the cause of education by Messrs W. R. Birnie and W. F. Durward, the retiring members of the Wanganui Education Board, was the subject of very apnreciatory reference, and regret was expressed that they had decided to retire. To fill the vacancies, it was decided to nominate Messrs D. W. Low and W. S. Woodroofe.
With regard to the services of Messrs Birnie and Durward. it was decided to place on record the association’s indebtedness for the work done, and to tender them a complimentary social. The meeting endorsed the action of Messrs Birnie and Durward in securing a site for a new school in Russell street.
