CREDULOUS NATIVES.
Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, June 21. A letter from Rev. O. Michelsen to the foreign missions committee of the Presbyterian Church reported that, during his absence from the Tongan New Hebrides, one of the natives bad laid claim to prophetic;!! powers and had predicted the imminent destruction of the island, the calamity to be averted only by ‘'repentance and hard cash.” In this way lie had secured a substantial sum from the credulous islanders.
