EXPRESS IN DANGER.

MINERS ON TRIAL. EXCITING SCENES. LONDON, June 8. There were exciting scenes at Newcastle when nine miners were charged with displacing a rail for the purpose of derailing the Scottish express during the strike. The engine and ,11 carriages ran off, but only one person was injured. A miner named Waugh gave evidence that he saw the nine men lifting the rail. All the accused vigorously declared that Waugh assisted in the removal, shouting, “Come on, lads; let’s have it out.”

The magistrate refused bail. Weeping women and relatives of the prisoners crowded round to shake their hands as they were removed in custody.
