ANOTHER COLD NIGHT.

The Government meteorologist telegraphed to-day: Tho indications are for variable and moderate breezes, northerly winds moderate to strong prevailing. There is a prospect of fair to cloudy weather and the night will probably be very cold. The barometer shows little movement.

The shortest day of the year, strictly speaking, was to-day, but for a period the sun is passing the solstices, or solstial points, in its motion southward. Not for days will there bo a perceptible change in the day’s length. So far the weather has been comparatively mild in comparison with last year.
