DIAMOND FIELD
GREAT RUSH BEGUM. TEN THOUSAND DIGGERS. VARIETY OF COSTUMES. (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received June 12, 8.5 a.m. CAPETOWN. June 11. Prior to the rush to the Blandsputte diamond field, mounted police cleared 12 square miles of country. Approximately 10,000 diggers assembled, from seven to eight deep, the formation being one and a-halr miles in length. They were clad in a variety of costumes, from'running togs to Oxford “bags." The great rush was accompanied by a hoarse roar from thousands of throats, and clouds of dust v and was witnessed by 10,000 spectators.—Reuter. Three weeks ago thcro were only a few shacks at Blandsputte (Transvaal), but since then the discovery of a number of valuable diamonds lias#attracted all classes.
