BOYS IN BOXING.
AUSTRALIAN’S PROTEST. LONDON, May 28. “The English practice of matching boys of 16 with matured and experienced men in 15 and 20-round fights endangers -English boxing,” says Mr Frank Brown, travelling representative of Stadiums, Ltd. “Boys should not be exposed to the risk of heavy punishment, and should not bo allowed to box unless at catchweights,” he. continued. “We find' growing boys compelled to make weight, which is only possible by means of dangerous dieting. The consequence is boxers are old men, sometimes broken, before they, are 20. England must follow the .American example, and prohibit boys from taking part in long lights. “I am satisfied that boxing control in Australia is equal to anywhere in the world.” Phil Scott is to meet Joe Beckett for the heavyweight championship of will take place at Southampton on July 10.
