POLICY SPEECH.
QUEENSLAND’S PREMIER. ’ PLANS FOR THE FUTURE. ASSISTANCE TO FORESTRY. Received April 10, 10.30 a.m. BRISBANE, April 10. The Premier, Mr McCormack, in a policy speech at Cairns, after comparing tho financial position of Queensland with that of othqr States, claimed that the State’s credit was very, sound. He stated that the Government was endeavouring to increase the area of forest plantations and-regenerate the hardwood forests. He forecasted widows’ and orphans’ pensions schemes and the extension of the motherhood and child -welfare schemes to the larger centres. The Government intended to increase the payments to injured workers to tho full rato of wage earned, but not exceeding tho basic rate, and also to increase the payments to workers suffering from miners’ phthisis and other occupational diseases, to provide workers’ homes and dwellings on a moro generous scale, and was prepared, if the Commonwealth Government would co-oper-ate financially, to assist in tho development of the cotton industry.— Press Association.
