“SERVICE TO PATIENT.”-
Per Press Association
WELLINGTON, April 9. Dr Malcolm T. MacEachern, associate director of the American College of Surgeons, prior to leaving Wellington for Auckland to-day, en route to Vancouver, handed the press a farewell message to the people of New Zealand.
After acknowledging the kindness he had received during Ins visit, and stating that tho objects of his tour were, namely, to give advice on hospital matters to the Governments of Victoria, New South Wales and New Zealand, he said his visit was made solely in the interests of the patient and to be patient. He reiterated that the primary objective of every hospital was “service to the patient.” He acknowledged the splendid work done by Dr Valintine, Director-General, of Health, in building up tho present health and hospital service of New Zealand. He was sure that tho suggested adjustments, so well received by the joint conference of the Health Department and hospital boards with himself, would tend to improve the present system. Ho hoped the Dominion hospitals would continue to receive much benefit from tho knowledge gained and imparted through the interchange of international viewpoints by representatives from this country visiting England, America and other countries to study hospital problems, as well as by having visitors from abroad to investigate our system. Ho appealed to tho citizens to tako a deep community prido and interest in their fine hospitals and co-operate to the fullest extent with tho Health Department and hospital boards in coping with the main problems facing the system at present. Ho paid a high tribute to tho assistance of tho press and its enthusiasm in hospital and health matters.
