“GOD’S OWN COUNTRY.”
PRAISE FOR DOMINION. ENGLISH VISITOR’S TRIBUTE. “They have called New Zealand ‘God’s Own Country,’ and the name is a fitting one. It is a wonderful place, and I never have regretted visiting it.” In these- words Mr H. Chase, or England, who came to fish in the rivers and lakes of the North Island, expressed his views on the Dominion this week. “1 have been a fisherman all my life, but never had such sport as here, ana never caught such fish. It is not only the fishing, there is something about the country itself, and the people are so hospitable. Everywhere I have gone people have gone out of their way to be kind, and I have been done more good turns by strangers in New Zealand than by friends in other countries.
“I am not a racing man, but I have been to all the largo meetings in England. I can say truthfully, however, that I havo never enjoyed myself as J. did at Ellerslie last Saturday. The course is a beatuiful one, and you can see all tho racing. There are no bookmakers, side-shows or people screaming in your cars, and it was all like a delightful garden party with a few races thrown in. Then, again, you can lose your money much more conveniently on a totalisator than in any other way 1 know.”
