OLD DIPLOMACY.

CUNNING NOT LOST.

PATCHING UP THE LEAGUE

LONDON, March 26. Discussing the question of tho League of Nations’ failure, Mr Lloyd George prophesied, a patching up in September. He added: “The great nations cannot afford ■ . open and avowed failuio to agree. There will bo a dull calm at Geneva. That will bo pre-arranged, tor the old diplomacy has not lost all its cunning. “Nevertheless, the real issue will not be settled for many Septembers. A deadly struggle is going on in the depths of the European pool between the old spirit of hostile groupings, and the new spirit of brotherhood among nations. If the group idea wins, the bad days will re-appear. Europe, and especially France, must abandon the balancing policy, otherwise the chariot of peace will bo smashed and tho disarmament conference wrecked.”
