United States prison reform has turned the gaols into comfortable hotels —if one can afford to pay for it. This is tho opinion of George Remus, prince of bootleggers, has just completed a term in the Stato penitentiary. . . He found numerous millionaires occupying “rooms” on the same tier as himself and they had many parties. It is presumod that these affairs were “dry,” but on this subject Remus refuses to commit himself. Duping the year he was a guest of tho Government, ho says he spent 20.000 dollars (about £4100) in luxuries, including tips to his bath attendant. He says he averaged six baths a day. Before prohibition Remus was a law clerk eaminj; about £5 a week.
