DOGS SHORT OF FEED. MAY HAVE TO BE SHOT. WILKINS EXPEDITION. NEW YORK, April 6. The Detroit Arctic expedition may have to shoot its dogs if food is not obtained for them in a short time. A radio despatch from the party which is exploring tho Polar lands of North Alaska, said on Monday that the huskies were drawing the sleds of one division of tho expedition, which is pushing overland towards the Soutlv Colovillo river, 140 miles from Point Barrow, Alaska, the explorers’ base of operations. A dispatch from tho main party said that it was living on ptarmigan, but had not sufficient for the dogs, unless a relief party, sent for food for the dogs to Jones Island, returned in two days. It is feared that the animals have had to he sacrificed.

The expedition is sponsored by the Detroit Aviation Society and Captain George Wilkins is in command. —A. and N.Z. cable.

It was cabled yesetrday from Vancouver that anxiety was felt at Fairbanks owing to the silence of Captain Wilkins, who had not been heard from since Friday night. Tho party that set out for help and provisions for the dogs had not since been heard of.
