EASTER RINKS TOURNAMENT. 1 a s ' COMMENCED YESTERDAY. P t In favourable weather the Manawatu Bowling Centre’s annual Easter rinks £ tourney was commenced yesterday, play e taking place on four greens—Palmer- i ston North, Terrace End, Manawatu and Northern. Three rounds were played in each of tho four sections, and to enable this i to be done in comfortable time the games were limited to 18 heads. 1 The visiting bowlers were extended a welcome at each of tho greens, Mr J. A. Nash, M.P., president of the centre, speaking at Palmerston North, Mr C. F. Spoonec- at Manawatu, Mr J. J. O’Shea at Terrace End and Mr L. R. Bryant at Northern. In tho course of his remarks, Mr Nash expressed the wish that all would find the tournament most enjoyable and trusted that the weather would not prove any bar to the expeditious conduct of the games. The speaker mentioned the arrangements that had been made for the entertainment of the visitors and their wives, including a motor drive on Sunday and a smoke concert to-night. Cheers were given on Mr Nash’s call for the visitors, and Mr Nash himself was similarly honoured. The various games yesterday resulted as follow: SECTION A. First Round: Eketahuna (W. J. Hooper, H. Suhan (skip.). „Tho visitors opened well and on the first five heads gamed a lead of eight. After eight more heads had been played the scores were 16—7 in the visitors favour The Feilding rink, Ross, Clapham .Quayle and Herdman (skip.) won tho six succeeding heads, accounting for 14 points Levin won the last two, but allowed Feilding to retain Ihe cup by the narrow margin ot 24—21.
