GOLF.

The final of the Wellington Golf Club’s championship was piayed at Heretaunga yesterday afternoon between K. Duncan and D. U. Whyte. Duncan played very steady golf in the second half and won 5 up and 4 to play. A most popular golfer was elected to the position of club captain of the Auckland Golf Club at tho annual meeting. This was Mr S. J. Hanna. In replying to the congratulations of the president, Mr W. li. Colbeck, Mr Hanna said that he was deeply sensible of the honour that was being conferred upon him. Ho was, lie thought, the youngest man to hold that position in the club, but ho had one distinction that none of his predecessors had had. “I am undoubtedly,” said Mr Hanna, “tho worst golfer who has ever held the position.” However, the applause that greeted his election showed that it is not blways tho best player who is the most popular.
