AGRICULTURAL CLUB.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
A general meeting of the Agricultural Club was held this week to further consider tho scheme outlined by Dr A. 11. Cockayne and Mr Fawcett, of the Agricultural Department, on their recent visit to the district. Mr A. Burgess presided over a fair attendance of members and reminded them of the proposal—which was tor an attempt at co-operate effort between farmers and tho department to ascertain tho cost of production of farm produce under the system adopted by the "man on the land” at the present tune —and the resolution passed at the previous meeting: that members would favofirably consider adopting the proposal and endeavour to find farmers willing to take part by giving the necessary inxormation to the olficurs oi tho department. It had been found that a few farmers had intimated their willingness to do this. —A general discussion ensued, and it was decided that the subject be deferred until a meeting to be held fate in April. Mr W. J. McCulloch, agricultural instructor, wrote asking whether the club had arranged unytliing with regard to the proposed top-dressing experiments pointing out that, owing to the slow acting nature of some of tho manures likely to bo used, it was desirable to get the work done in the near future. This matter was also deferred until tho April meeting. Breviously tho club decided to. hold a competitive display between the four districts in its area at the Horticultural Society’s coming show, and the secretary intimated that the society had agreed to allow a space of 40ft by 3lt for tho purpose. .
