FROM WEALTHY HUSBAND
GRANDFATHER IN DIVORCE. LONDON, March 18. Lady Gilbey is suing for divorce from Sir Walter Gilbey, who is 66 years of age, and whom she married in 1884. They have one grandson. Lady Gilbey outlined tho mental cruelties which, she said, Sir Walter inflicted. Ho allowed her only £1 weekly in the early years of their marriage, despite his wealth. Subsequently she - received £I6OO a year under a separation agreement. Sho protested against her husband’s outrageous conduct in parading at Ascot Racecourse, between races, with the co-respondent, Mrs Mavor, whose husband was complacent. Sir Walter was constantly in the co-respondent’s company at Newmarket and MonteCarlo, and their social circle was well aware of their relationship. Sir Walter, sho said, committed the refinement of cruelty by placing the co-respondent’s photograph on liis wife's dressing table. lie expressed indignation when his wife became a Christian Scientist..
A later message states that Lady Gilbey was granted a divorce.
