INCREASED PRODUCTION

AGRICULTURAL DEPARTMENT TO

HELP,

Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, March 31. Hon. 0. J. Hawken, Minister of Agriculture, was given a civic reception at ltangiora yesterday and later opened the new Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s Hall. In the course of his speech the Minister said: “We must get down to it and produce more than wo have been doing. The great need of New Zealand to-day is increased production. The Agricultural Department will have to take it into its hands to see that a great deal more instruction is given to young people who intend to tako up farming. We must do everything possible to help the farmer to produce more than he has been producing. We have men thoroughly skilled in farming in our department and I am of the opinion that we have not mado full use of these mon in the past. V o u.ust do so ill the future; it will bo to the benefit of the country. Wo have many difficulties to meet, but we •will do it.”
