CONDITIONS ON WAIMANA.

CLEAN BUT CROWDED

Per Press Association

AUCKLAND, March 31. A woman immigrant, who avme by tho Waiinana, says that tho trouble which has recently been discussed was that there were too many people on board for the accommodation, and particularly for the cooking arrangements. Tho passengers were in six-berth cabins. “In tho tropics,” she said, “it was unbearable. "We slept on tho hatches, and the men slept out on tho deck. About 500 people signed a memorial, which was circulated on the ship during tho voyage. There was a complaint mado by two or three passengers about the bedding, but the ship herself was kept as clean as she could be.” Asked why no complaints were made on tho ship’s arrival in Auckland, she answered : “I really cannot say. "W e wero all strangers, and after that uncomfortable trip we wero only too glad to get ashore.

Questions wore recently asked in tho Houso of Commons regarding the conditions on tho immigrant ship Waimana. h
