HOME PRODUCE TO BE ASSISTED

In the House of Commons, when answering question, Mr L. C. Amery announced the decisions of the Imperial Government in regard to recommendations by the Imperial Economic Committee on tho subject of the proposed grant in furtherance of Empire marketing. Ho said it was intended to set aside 500,000 during the financial year 1926-1927 and to provide a full million during 1927-28. A special vote would be submitted to Parliament for the administration of tho grant, which would be entrusted to the Secretary of Dominion Affairs, assisted by a commission consisting of representatives of the Colonial Office, the Treasury, Ministry of Agriculture, Scottish Health Department, and members nominated by the Secretary of State in consultation with the chairman of the Imperial EconoCommittee.
The new body would bo directed to include homo agricultural produce within the -scopo of tho grant, and an additional member of the Imperial Economic Committee would be appointed, representing homo agricultural interests. A Labour member asked for an nssuranco that the importation of Empire produce which was produced by unfair labour conditions would be discouraged. Mr Amery expressed the opinion, that the labour conditions throughout tho Empiro compared favourably with similar conditions in other parts of tho world. —Router.
