POSSIBILITY OF IMPORTATIONS. Quite a number of inquiries have been made regarding the possibility of importing fowl wheat in bulk from Australia next month. At tlio present timo permits uro granted to import fowl wheat from tho Commonwealth in limited quantities, which will not prejudice tins season’s local wheat harvest. In order to relieve tho New Zealand shortage, the Government have foregone their duty, and allowed fowl wheat to bo imported duty freo. This concession, however, will cease at the end .of the present month. Thero was an impression abroad yesterday that the Government had decided to remove the duty on fowl wheat from Australai, but inquiries proved this to be incorrect (states the Dominion). The matter is not at present before Cabinet; but front wlmt can bo gathered it is pretty certain that tlio Government will bo approached to remove the duty on importations from Australia.
