Dr. G. H. Robertson has resigned fiis position at radiologist at tho Wanganui Hospital. Mr Alfred Seifert returned to Palmerston North yesterday after spending six months in tho East, his tour embracing Java and many of the principal cities of India. Ensign Fraser, who has been appointed to tako charge of tho Palmerston North Salvation. Army Corps, was extended a reception at the Citadel, Broadway, last evening. Mr E. It. Hodge, architect to tho Wanganui Education Board, was in Palmerston North to-day on Official business. A London cablegram announces the death of tho well-known cricketer I). Jephson, who was at one time captain of tho Surrey team, and who was ono of the greatest lob bowlers. Mr F. Hooker, brother of Mr W. Hooker, of the Court staff, accompanied by his wifo and family, is at present on a visit to Palmerston North. Mr Hooker, who was formerly a member of the detective branch at Auckland, is now stationed at Te Awamutu. Tlie friends of Mrs A. N. Ogilvio, of Fitzherbert West, who underwent a serious operation at the hospital on Tuesday, will be pleased to learn that she is making satisfactory progress towards recovery. Mr R. B. Ryder, who has been a member of the inspectional staff of tho Wanganui Education Board for several years past, will retire from his position on August 31 next, with six months’ prior leave of absenco. He therefore terminates his duties at the end of next month. Mr Ryder was, for a period, headmaster of the old Campbell Street School. A further Wembley honour, states a London cable, is a Knight of the Grand Cross of Empire for Sir Travers Clarke. Mr A. F. Roberts, C.8.E.,who acted as New Zealand Commissioner at the Wembley exhibition, and upon whom has been conferred the K.B.E. order, is a son of Sir John Roberts and was born in Dunedin and educated at Merchiston Castlo School, Edinburgh, and later at Cambridge University. The death occurred at Gisborne last night at tho ago of 78 years of Mr Vincent Pyke. Deceased was a wellknown banker, who some years ago retired from the service of the Bank of New Zealand. He was the son of the late Mr Vincent Pyke, M.P. Deceased was stationed for some years in the South Island, including Rakaia and Gore, and was for many years manager at Gisborne. His wifo predeceased him twelve years ago, and he is survived by two sons and a daughter.
Mr Leslie Cole, son of Constable and Mrs Cole, of Palmerston North, together with his wife, is duo to arrive from England by the Ruahine on Saturday. Mr Cole, who saw considerable service with the N.Z.E.F., originally left these shores with the Bth Reinforcements and on being invalided home re-enlisted with the 2oths. For a period, as Sergeant in the Field Artillery, he acted as instructor at Aldershot, following which ho rejoined his battery in France where ho was severely wounded. On securing his discharge in New Zealand, Mr Cole returned to England where he married and settled down. The prevailing conditions there have proved far from satisfactory and Mr Cole has decided to jetum to the country or his birth.
