(From Our Own Correspondent.) At tho usual monthly meeting of tho Chambor of Commerco tho president (Mr A. E. Adniore) was in the chair. Mr A. Alsop was elcotod a momber of tho chambor. Tho president, in extending 1 a welcomo to Mr J. IC. Hornblow expressed his pleasure at seeing him in his old pla.co on tho chamber on liis return from his trip abroad. 110 paid a tribufco to Mr Ilornblow’e past services and hoped tho chambor would havo his valued services for years to como. Tho friends of Mrs Woodham, of Russell street, will bo pleased to hear that she has returned homo from tho hospital • where she was an inmato for somo timo’ after undergoing a serious operation. Mrs Woodham’s health is much improved. In order to effect a more eafo landing from boats and launches at tho soosido it has been suggested that tho Harbour Board extend tho present jotty. A certain amount of inconvenience was occasioned to a number of people on Sunday when effecting a landing from a launch which wns unable to get alongside the jetty. Tho opinion expressed was that tho .jetty should bo availablo for landing purposes at low tide. . A local motorist who recently returned from tho Wairarapa states that the worst piece of highway encountered on tho trip was tho Himatangi road. It is difficult to account for tho corrugations on this road as the Manawatu County Council has given special attention to this highway. . Tho borough road staff is at present engaged in tar sealing the roadway to its width in front of tho Town Hall.
