ROUGH RUGBY

“LIKE A STREET BRAWL.” INTERNATIONAL MATCH. DISGRACEFUL EXHIBITION. (Bv Eiectrio Telegraph—Copyright.) "Received January 20, 8.55 a.in. LONDON, Jan. 19. “Rugby like a street brawl” is tlio description of Saturday’s tlio England versus Wales match, attributed to an unnamed but well-known international player. ■ In the Evening Standard ho says: “Fists were used as in a street brawl and feet as if tho players themselves were the ball.”

A prominent Welsh Rugby Unionito is quoted as saying: “It was disgraceful; it was not Rugby. .There was at one time a danger of •'one of the captains leading his team off the field. I saw what can only be described as deliberate blows, and the offside rule was blatantly broken in tho scrums by tlio Welsh halves. I am full of regret at the conduct of certain individuals and tho barracking of the crowd.” It is stated that English Rugby unionists discussed tho matter unofficially and it will not be surprising if to Welsh Union receives a letter on the subject.—Reuter.

The game, which was played at Cardiff, resulted in a draw, each sido scoring tbreo points.
