A record so far as the inner waters of Hauraki Gulf are concerned is claimed for a female shark caught recently near Maraetai, writes an Auckland correspondent. The fish was loft. 3in.'- long. Its girth was 6ft. 2in. across. The shark was the twen-ty-eighth of over 4ft. in length caught by the same fishermen this season. While fishing from the beach at Sandspit on Hauraki Gulf, near Clevedon, David Cashmore landed a shark 9ft. in length. Settlers in the district say that they have never seen such a lafge shark so close in shore before.
