ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.
LORRY AND TRAP COLLIDE. A party returning by motor lorry from Tangimoana yesterday had an exciting experience while proceeding along the Rongotea-Longburn road in tlie vicinity of the Kopane settlement. A horse in the shafts of a trap was being driven in the opposite direction, and when within ten yards of the lorry shied across the road. The driver of the motor vehicle, with great presence of mind, swung tho lorry off the road which, fortunately, is level in that locality, thus averting, what very possibly would havo been a nasty smash. As it was tho horse was struck on a leg by a front wheel and was slightly injured. THROWN FROM CAR. A little girl named Jessie Hocking, 3} years of age, the daughter of Mr and Mrs T. Hocking, of Hcretaunga street, was admitted to tho hospital yesterday afternoon suffering from shock and bruises sustained in a fall from a car. It appears that the skidding of one of the back wheels caused the unfortunate child to be thrown from the vehicle. Her condition is not serious.
