ARBITRATION COURT JUDGE
MR JUSTICE POWERS RESIGNING. MELBOURNE, Dec. 18. Mr Justico Powers announced today that he would resign tho position of President of the Commonwealth Arbitration Court when tho next Arbitration Act is passed. Ho said ho had agreed to continue as president until a successor was appointed, provided he should not continue to work after June, 1926. His Honour intimated that lie had no intention of retiring from public life. He would continue to discharge his duties as a justico of tho High Court.
In reviewing his work, Mr Justico Powers said there were 325,500 workers under the protection of the Arbitration Court. “I do hope,” he added, “that the unionists will not let extremists destroy the great, work tlreir leaders have done for them.
“I have no complaints or apologies to make in giving up the work. Those who have criticised my work exercised their legal right in a free country. At the same time I ask my critics to forgive me at this Christmas season for not being guided in any way whatever bv their criticisms.”
