44-HOUR WEEK IN N.S.W, (By Electrio Telegraph —Copyright.) Received January 4, 10.10 a.m. SYDNEY, Jan. 4. To-day sees the inauguration of tho 44-hour week throughout the State. The shorter hours will mean considerably more expense in tho big Government departments, such as the railways, as tlio employment of some hundreds of extra men is necessitated. The extra expense occasioned by the contractors of the big harbour bridge will bo borne by the Treasury under a special provision in the contract. — Press Association.
