JUNIOR REPRESENTATIVE MATCH.

HASTINGS v. MANAWATU,

A representative cricket match was commenced at the Sportsground yesterday between the Hastings junior representatives and the Manawatu second eleven. Weather conditions were

| \ perfect, and both the outfield and wicket were in good order. The visitors batted first and, with the assistance of poor fielding, were enabled to knock up 365 in good time. Top score was returned by Knuckey, who compiled 102, including 18 boundaries and one six. The partnership between this batsman and Spence was the riohest of the day, over 130 being added before the last named was run 1 out.

Manawatu commenced badly, four wickets falling for 36, with two batsmen making a “duck” each. The next two wickets put on just under a hundred runs. When stumps were drawn 160 was on the board for the loss of • seven wickets. McDonald was top scorer with 62, including seven fours . and four hits into the Esplanade. land, has receivod an invitation from the Eastern Extension Cable Company (London), asking the members of the team to visit Orleans Park, Twickenham. This property has been purchased by tho vurious Eastern cable companies for their staffs throughout the world, so that they, have a home to go to when they are in London on holidays. The cricket ground on the property was the ’ original practice ground used by the first Australian eleven, and (says a Sydney paper) doubtless the sixteenth Australian eleven will take the opportunity of accepting the company’s invitation.
