POLAR FLIGHT
NON-STOP JOURNEY. MR HENRY FORD’S SUPPORT. (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received December 23, 9.55 a.m. NEAV YORK, Dec. 22. Reports are current that Mr Henry Ford, who recently entered the airplane manufacturing field, is to back a trans-Polar non-stop airplane flight early next spring from Point Barrow', Alaska, to Spitzbergen. Tho flight, according to a report, is being arranged by Stefansson and others. Tho report also infers that Lieutenant John Maclteady, an army trans-continental flier, and Lieutenant James Doolittle, the holder of several army flight records, are to pilot tho plane.—A. and N.Z. cable. WAR OFFICIALS’ DECISION. AUTHORITY~BY CONGRESS NECESSARY. Received December 2.3, 9.55 a.m. WASHINGTON, Dec. 22. The project for a polar flight has been presented to tho AA’ar Department by Mr Ford’s chief engineer, but the officials decided that Congressional authority is necessary for Government participation.—A. and N.Z. cable.
