FALL FROM A WHARF.

NARROW ESCAPE FROM DEATH. GISBORNE, Dec. 21. While on the Waikokopu wharf on Sunday morning, Mr James Skilton, builder and contractor, who came from tho West Coast on the Pakura with a consignment of poles and posts for the Public Works Department, fell between tho vessel and the spring pile wall, striking his head and eventually, landing in the water. Mr A. Crimmins, foreman for Mr Peacock, contractor, descended to Mr Skilton and held him up Until a rope was lowered and he was hauled up to safety. . On being medically examined Mr Skilton was found to have sustained a wound on the top of his head, one on tho back of tile head, a badly swollen eye and other bruises. He was fortunate in not being crushed between the ship and the piles.
