The death lias occurred at Gore at the age of 92 years of Mrs Elizabeth Brown, who had been in New Zealand for 77 years, having landed at Auckland in 1848, at a time when Maori troubles were begin ni ng to be prominent. The family settled at Otahuhu, but about 12 years later removed to Dunedin, and settled at Green Island, removing again later to Pukerau. -Mrs Brown was twice married, and on the death of her second husband settled at Gore. She was a fine type of early settler, courageous, warm-hearted and hospitable. She reared a family of 11 children, all of whom arc still living, and there are in addition 51 grandchildren and So great-grandchildren.
