Colebateh, recalled that the slow growth of Australia’s population had been tho theme of countless speeches and newspaper articles, but actually the growth was amazing. It hud taken 70 years to get the first million white population, but Australia had got the last million of its six millions within seven years. Tho speaker proceeded to stress Australia’s high birth rate and • low death rate, and predicted that within a century she would have a population greater than England and Wales now have. Ho also emphasised Australia’s astonishing purchasing power.
