ELECTION CAMPAIGN

PALMERSTON SEAT. LAST SHOTS FIRED. MR NASH AT EVERYBODY’S. The final appeals to the electors by the Palmerston North candidates were made last night. Mr J. A. Nash addressed a crowded audience at Everybody’s Theatre, many being unable to gain admission. Mr A. E. Bennett, who presided, introduced the candidate and prophesied a Reform victory in to-day’s contest. The candidate was accorded an ovation as he rose to speak, and throughout was repeatedly applauded, dealing in effective fashion with the interjections on the part of a minor section of the assemblage. Beforo, he proceeded to speak Mr Nash was presented with a bouquet by Miss Ilona Day. In forceful fashion he dealt with the allegations levelled at him by his opponent and at the same time emphasised that whatever he had said about Mr Bromley was uttered purely in a political sense. He trenchantly criticised the policy and constitution of the Labour Party, in which, he said, ho had no confidence at all, and warned his hearers against the menace of Communism. At the conclusion of his address Mr Nash answered a number of questions and on the motion of Mr 0. Monrad was accorded a vote of thanks and confidence, which was carried by acclamation. Three cheers were given for Mr Nash following which the. company sang “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow,” and gave further cheers for the Reform candidate. Mr Nash expressed his indebtedness to Mr A. E. Bennett for assistance given in the campaign. Mr Bromley ended his campaign with speeches at Kelvin Grove and in Palmerston North, concluding at a late hour in the SquareMAORI ELECTORATES.
