MARTON GUN CLUB.
WELLINGTON PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIP. WON BY H.~~QUARTEItMAN. The weather was dull with a slight haze and not conducive to good shooting for the Marton Gun Club’s pigeon shoot held yesterday. The results were :
Open Clay Bird Handicap (Ist prize gun valued at £SO; 2nd £7: 3rd £3; 21 birds). —D. McLaclilan (Masterton), C. Illston (Marton) and J. Blyth (Wanganui) each shot 20 birds. C. Illston winning in the shoot-off with 13 birds, C. McLaclilan being second with 12 and J. Blyth third with 9 birds. The following secured 19 birds:—Duncan Fraser (Palmerston North), B. Burgess and C. Rofe (Marton), J. Whittle, 11. A. Belli, G. Belli and R. Anderson (Taihapc), C. Gray (Masterton), J. P. Byrne (Carterton) and J. Beard (Kimbolton). Wellington Provincial Championship (Ist gold medal and sweepstake, 21 birds, 18 yards rise).—ll. Quarterman (Taihape), J. Whittle (Taihapc). D. McLaclilan (Masterton) and C. Illston (Marton) each shot 19 birds. In the shoot-off H. Quarterman shot 26 birds without a miss, securing the championship medal. D. McLaclilan shot 23 birds, C. Illston 4 and J. Whittle 2. The following secured 18 birds:—B. Burgess, R. Anderson and J. Beard.
Sweepstake, 13 birds, 2 misses out. —N. Crabb and H. Nuttall divided with 15 birds, J. Beard 14 birds. 3. Double rise, 8 birds.—C. E. Gibbons 1. J. Crabb and H. Quarterman divided second money.
Handicap Sweep, 9 birds.—N. Crabb 1, J. Crabb, H. Nuttall and C. E. Gibbons divided second money. At the conclusion of the championship shoot, Mr T. A. Wilson (president) presented the championship medal to p. Quarterman and the gun to C. Illston, congratulating them on their splendid shooting.
