PROTEST BY SEAMEN. AN UNOFFICIAL STRIKE. Received August 18, 10.10 a.in. LONDON. Aug. 17. Jt is reported that an unofficial strike lias broken out among the seamen and firemen, and that ships aro held up in London and Hull as a protest: against Mr Havelock Wilson and other officials of the Sailors’ and Firemen’s Union agreeing to a reduction in wages. , They declare that they should have been consulted. Mr Havelock Wilson says that the only men striking are the unemployed, whom the Communists are exploiting; but men are freely signing on and recognising that the best bargain was made in their interests. —Reuter.
