WALSH’S APPEAL.
HIGH COURT’S JUDGMENT,
ONE CONVICTION TO STAND
Received August 18, 8.5 a.m. SYDNEY, Aug. 17. The High Court delivered reserved judgment in the appeal of Mr Tom Walsh, president of the Seamen’s Union, against his conviction on two ehrages at the Melbourne Police Court. The Court quashed one conviction, but the other, in which Walsh was fined £IOO, was allowed to stand.—Press Association.
In February last during the shipping trouble in Australia, a charge against Walsh of inciting the watersiders to strike was dismissed, the court ruling that there was not sufficient evidence to support the charge. Walsh was, however, found guilty on two charges of inciting two union officials to do something in the nature of a strike and was fined on two charges.
