EFFECT OF DAIRY CONTROL.
ON ATTITUDE OF FIRAIS
One effect of the operation of tho Dairy Produce Export Control Act, it would appear, may be to cause certain firms, whose business will bo in future restricted thereby, to cease giving prizes to Agricultural and Pastoral shows in tlie matter of dairy classes. This possibility was brought to notico at the meeting of the committee of tho Manawatu Agricultural and Pastoral Association this morning, when a letter was received from A. H. Turnbull and Co., Ltd., Christchurch, for £5 os, being the special prize for the manager of the company winning the Weddel Challenge Cup at the Winter Show. The matter of tho prize money, the letter stated, was being brought before Messrs W. Weddel and Co., Ltd., and it was desired to state that it could not be said what their future'attitude would be if compulsory control came into operation. It was unlikely that they would feel inclined to continue to pay a money prize to tho cup winner each year if the business was taken out of their hands. The letter was received, the president remarking that, although nothing tangible had yet resulted, it showed what might happen.
