At Forest Hills, in the Indies’ international teams matches for the Wiglitman Cup, the first match resulted in Miss Kathleen Melvana defeating Mrs Mallory, 6—4, 5—7, 6—o. Both players appeared to be evenly matched in the first two sets, but in tho last the English girl outdrove and outplayed the American. Miss Helen "Wills brought the matches to a tie by defeating Miss Joan Fry, 6—o, 7—5. In tho first set M iss "Wills had Miss Fry completely at her mercy, but in the second set tho English girl solved ths hard-driving attack of Miss Wills and forced her to resort to a softer pace. Miss Fry led •4—love, only allowing Miss Wills two points in the first four games by using long-driven placements to the baseline. Mrs Lambert Chambers and Miss E. H. Harvey placed England in a two to ono lead by defeating Mesdames Mallory and May Sutton Bundy, 10 —8, 6—l, through superior team play. Mrs Mallory was somewhat tired after her three-set match with Miss McKane, in which she had fought tenaciously for every point. Airs Bundy faced Mrs Lambert Chambers for tho first time since tho Wimbledon tournament of 1907. —A. and N.Z. cable. NEW YORK, Aug. 15. A telegram from Forest Hills says tho Britishers made a successful defence of the Wightman Cup, defeating United States by four matches out of seven of tho two-day series. Airs Lambert Chambers beat Aliss Goss, 7—5, 3—6, 6—l. Tho deciding victory game was the doubles, Alisses Cuyer and McKane defeating Alisses Wills and Browne, 6—o, 6—3. Airs Alallory defeated Aliss Fry, 6—3, 6 —o; and Aliss Wills beat Aliss Ale Kane, 6—l. I—6, 9—7—Reuter.
