GERMANS MISLED
STATEMENT BY PROFESSOR. UNDOUBTED DEFEAT IN 1918. (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received July 20, 12.20 p.m. BERLIN, July 18. Professor Delbruck, one of three expert members of the committee appointed for the purpose of analysing the report on the cause of German military collapse in 1918, accuses Ludendorff of deliberately misleading German people, who thereafter lost faith and confidence, and the nation lost its fighting power. Subsequently, he says, the revolution succeeded, not because it was backed by an overpowering force, but because the representatives of Kaiserdom had lost faith in themselves.
Professor Delbruck adds: “The German army unquestionably suffered defeat on July 18 and August 8.” He maintains that the Germans even today are misled by the reiteration of the phrase, which is entirely meaningloss, namely, that the army left the field unconquered.—A. and N.Z. cable.
