EVADED THE CUSTOMS.
POLA NEGRI HEAVILY FINED. NEW YORK, July 6. Pola Negri, the film star, was given a costly lesson for evading the Customs, last Dlay, with valuable bracelets and a diamond ring. The lesson was read to her by General Andrews, assistant secretary to the Treasury, in the form of a fine ot £11,400, of which £2OOO was a penalty and the remainder the value of the jewels.
He ruled that the temperamental actress had ample notice of the Cus. tom’s requirements . after leaving Europe and before arriving at New York by the Berengaria.
