ANGLO-FRENCH PEOPLE.
UNSHAKEABLE FRIENDSHIP. PARIS, June 28. The Lord Mayor of London was the principal guest at a civic banquet at Verdun on the ninth anniversary of the battle of Verdun. President Poincare, in a speech, said he believed London’s generosity in adopting Verdun was not a demonstration of passing sentiment,, but a brilliant testimony to unshakeable friendship. Verdun’s citizens realised these sympathies and tho interests closely uniting the two countries. He therefore proposed the toast of the perennial alliance of the Anglo-French people.—A. and N.Z. cable.
