CAUSES CANNIBALISM. NORTH AUSTRALIANS’ PRACTICE. Received June 12, 12.55 p.m. SYDNEY, June 12. Captain Wilkes states that his recent exploration in Northern Australia disclosed that some natives in theGoyder and King rivers districts still practise promiscuous cannibalism. He gave as an instance the case of a baby, stating that after being buried for two days the body was taken tip and eaten, A young man was killed in a duel anti because his body was so fat his'enemies decided to eat him. The scarcity of fat was one of the chief causes of these practices.—Press Association.
